A Community Project, FOR TOYS

I asked in the SHDP what everyone thought of making Jiro plush dolls and the response was very positive, so let's see what we can do with it.

First of all, I'm thinking of going with Gann Memorials as the manufacturer. They've got an impressive lineup of dolls they've made before.

Now, as many of you know, something of this scale costs a shitload of money. Since I'm living in a dorm room, it's very, VERY important to take account of space. Because of that, the lowest number of dolls we can have made at a time right now is 250.

However, I've done some of the math and right now, the dolls are approximately $8 each if we were to go with standard dimensions (8 inch dolls), so with 250 of them, that's ~$2,000. With all other costs included (i.e. shipping, samples, etc), we're going to try and shoot for $3,000.

I understand that KS is a very small community, and on top of that, it's comprised mostly of younger members who may not be able to contribute to this goal. So, in addition to asking for donations, I'm going to also ask that we come up with ideas to raise funds for the toys.

You can make a one-time donation or multiple donations (however this is a serious endeavor, so please don't be a dork and donate something like 25 cents one time and think it'll actually make a difference. This isn't UNICEF).

Next, for those who are interested in purchasing episodes of RyuFox Legends, please do. In fact, this is what I'll do for you: Rather than ordering directly from the shop, send your $20.35 directly to the PayPal account through the button up there, and I'll order your book myself and not only will you get it somewhat at a discount, but the remainder of the money you paid for the book will go toward a Jiro doll. I will also sign your book and maybe doodle a little something in it for you.

Thirdly (this is mostly for GDA staffers, but anyone can do this), I'm not absolutely demanding you do this, nor am I expecting you to do so, but if you have things you'd like to sell/get rid of to help raise the funds for this, please do so, and then again, send the funds to the PayPal account.

Fourth, I'm going to try and start taking (ugh) commissions. I'll try to maintain a relatively flexible system in which if you tell me what you want, I'll tell you how much I can do it for. For example, if you want a sketch and you're offering $10 for it, I'll take the job. If you're offering $200 for it, I'll take it. However, if you're offering $10 for a big and colorful poster the size of a door, you'd better dream again. I need you guys as much as possible to help find people who want art done and direct them to me. I'll try to do what I can for them at prices affordable.

Finally, if you have any other ideas to raise funds, contact me either on AIM, by email, or by PM. Don't hesitate to get those potentially interested to lend a hand.

Considering the endeavor we're taking to accomplish this, I will not spend any of the money raised for personal expenses (though I'm a relatively honest guy, so I think you guys can trust me on that one). All proceeds will be spent on making the dolls. Any additional money left over will be put toward any additional gifts I can afford for you guys (like gifts for most resourceful and biggest contributor [I'm out of the running for this]).

This is a team effort and I want to reward you all for this, so for everyone that participates in any way, your name will be recorded in this topic and you will receive a free Jiro autographed by me once they start rolling in.

I know we suck at putting together game projects and that half of you are underage, but this is something I really think we can all do if we put our minds and resources together.

Updated the current totals. PayPal charges a stupid little fee for card-to-account transactions, so I lost a about 70 cents from Ylle's donation.

It's really not much, but it kind of sucks and it does add up in the long run.

Might I suggest that you order one and take a picture of it? It'll be quite easy from there to market this idea as people will know what to expect out of it. :) Maybe even allow people to order it for themselves from the getgo (unless I misunderstood and that's the way it already is)?

I'd really love to contribute myself, I just don't want to say that I will and then falter on my promise when money is tight.

Change of plans, guys.

I've been talking with Xeroen and we kind of figured that making the dolls was an ambitious project. As such, we're scrapping the project.

However, he came up with an idea that I think would be more profitable, so we're going to go with that. I'll have him make the discussion topic for it.
